The Mississippi Valley State University football program potentially has a future stud at the quarterback position according to HBCU Sports as they projected East Mississippi CC transfer Jamari Jones as their SWAC Newcomer of the Year when predicting the conference's award winners. Jones, a six-foot-three, 210-pound junior from Fannin, Mississippi, threw for 2,728 yards and 33 touchdowns during the Fall 2021 campaign at EMCCC, nearly 1,000 more yards (1,847) and 22 more touchdowns (11) than all Valley signal callers combined last season.

The top-ranked JUCO prospect at his position, the former Northwest Rankin High School product led the Lions to a MACCC Championship with a 64% (179-of-279) completion percentage while also contributing 573 yards plus six scores on the ground to provide a true multi-threat weapon to Offensive Coordinator Kenton Evans' arsenal. A three-star recruit that resulted in a #80 ranked prospect in the nation (247Sports) prior to signing with MVSU, Jones spurned offers from five FBS schools (Ole Miss, Baylor, Illinois, Missouri, and South Carolina), both SWAC Mississippi rivals (Alcorn and Jackson State), and FCS Playoff contender Tennessee-Martin. - Mississippi Valley State Football
